The MathWorks Release 14

Important Changes: MathWorks Products in Transition with Release 14

The following products have undergone structural changes in Release 14.

Control System Toolbox

In Release 14, Control System Toolbox linearization features for Simulink have been extensively enhanced and moved to a new product named Simulink Control Design. The linearization features are no longer available in the Control System Toolbox. The development of Simulink Control Design reflects requests for better tools for linearizing Simulink models and the capability to design and analyze controllers directly in Simulink.

Simulink Control Design requires the Control System Toolbox and Simulink.

At the launch of Release 14, Simulink Control Design was provided at no additional cost to customers who were current on maintenance for the Control System Toolbox and Simulink. See note.

MATLAB Runtime Server

In Release 14, the MATLAB Compiler has incorporated most of the functionality of the MATLAB Runtime Server. With the introduction of Release 14, the MATLAB Runtime Server is no longer sold as a separate product.

The MATLAB Compiler supports the full MATLAB language and almost all MATLAB based toolboxes. With Release 14, you can deploy your MATLAB programs using the MATLAB Compiler as stand-alone applications or software components.

At the launch of Release 14, the MATLAB Compiler was provided at no additional cost to customers who were current on maintenance for the MATLAB Runtime Server. However, please note that the MATLAB Compiler is only available for Windows and Linux as of the Release 14 ship date. We plan to support Mac OS X and Sun Solaris within the next few months. See note.

Please note: If you plan to distribute MATLAB Runtime Server based applications after the launch of Release 14, you will need to continue to pay deployment fees as established in your license terms.

No action is needed. You will receive the MATLAB Compiler 4.

If you are the administrator on your license, you can download the updated product.

If your maintenance is not current for the MATLAB Runtime Server:

You will need to renew your Software Maintenance Service to receive the updated product.

Need more information?

Refer to Release 14 highlights for product description of MATLAB Compiler 4.

Model Predictive Control Toolbox

In Release 14, the Model Predictive Control Toolbox requires the Control System Toolbox. The Model Predictive Control Toolbox is completely rebuilt on the Control System Toolbox data architecture, providing a common basis for its use with other MathWorks control design and modeling products. Also, the toolbox now has a graphical interface to help users develop constrained multivariable controllers more easily.

At the launch of Release 14, the Control System Toolbox was provided at no additional cost to Model Predictive Control Toolbox customers who were current on maintenance. See note.
