how to compile/link the matlab code for executing from c ?

I have small matlab program (include 4 files) and large c program. I need to compile matlab and c together to be able to execute matlab procedures from c-code. I have Ubuntu. Help please with makefile, which path do I need ? To mex file ? To which libraries ?
